Right at the entrance of Paro town, there is a temple resembling chorten (Stupa) known as Chorten Lhakhang. This is a very sacred Monastery believed to be founded in the 15th century by Lam Ngawang Chogyal.
The main relic of the monastery is the Jowa Sakyamuni Buddha housed in the first floor. You will also see Chuchi Zhey, Guru Rinpoche and Drupthop Thangtho Gyalpo Statues among many others. Ground floor is empty.
I couldn’t get much information as why this typical monastery was built in chorten style as the caretaker was not in position to explain other than identifying the name of the statues which I know myself. Will keep on looking for this information.
But what is important here is the Lama Drukpa Kuenlay’s Neydo (Holy rock) lying few meters from the monastery under a small willow tree. You will find edge of the stone pierced by Lama Drukpa Kuenlay to tie his horse. This is no doubt a very sacred Neydo of Lama Drukpa Kuenlay.
The place look bit dirty and there is potential risk of damaging this Neydo if proper care is not taken. Request People of Paro to take care of this and keep the area clean.
